The York River has 70 pools distributed in 7 controlled sectors and 4 non-controlled sectors.
Release of all large salmon is in effect from May 25 to June 21, in order to increase the number of spawning salmon in autumn as well as to ensure improved fishing in coming years.
All pools are open to wade fishing only, except in Sector 4 where small boat fishing is permitted by the year.
The "Take Turns" rotation system is recommended for the river.
Access to the pools is by maintained footpaths.
The majority of the pools are between 100 and 200 feet in length.
All the river's pools are clearly identified on the roadside.
Best pools: 2 to 11, 18 to 22, 32, 36 to 39, 40, 41, 51 to 53, 57, 58, and 61.
