Atlantic salmon knowledge Forum
A KEY EVENT IN THE WORLD OF ATLANTIC SALMON
Created in 2022 following the merger of the annual scientific symposiums of CIRSA (Interuniversity Centre for Atlantic Salmon Research) and FQSA (Fédération québécoise pour le saumon atlantique), the Atlantic Salmon Knowledge Forum is a scientific event that promotes the dissemination of knowledge and exchanges between diverse sources of information on salmon.
The forum recognizes that academic knowledge from university research is not the only source of knowledge on salmon. Indigenous peoples have knowledge and concerns that are essential to the integrative study of salmon and the Forum wishes to recognize and encourage the inclusion of this traditional knowledge. Historically, consulting firms, provincial and federal government departments, and NPOs have also played a major role in the development of practical knowledge about salmon. The Forum is designed to further promote this practical knowledge by giving it its rightful space. Finally, since students are the driving force behind university research, and although their contributions can be associated with academic knowledge, the Forum intends to reserve a distinct seat for student knowledge in order to better promote it.
The Forum’s purpose is to value all the different knowledge and to encourage collaboration and sharing between the communities from which it originates.
