Basic fishing material

Get your gear out

Fishing for salmon requires basic equipment. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • a fly rod;
  • a reel with a fly line;
  • a leader to tie the fly;
  • two types of flies: dry flies and wet flies.

Fly fishing is an angling method that uses artificial lures (hooks dressed with different materials) to catch fish. These flies are used to imitate insects, or other food of the targeted species.

Accessories

Some useful little tools to help make your time on the water more enjoyable:

  • scissors or nippers to trim fly lines and leader material;
  • a fly box.
