The species

Often referred to as the King of Fish, wild Atlantic salmon are migratory cold-water fish living at sea that return to spawn in the same river in which they were bred.

In Quebec, the term sea trout is used to refer to anadromous brook trout. Sea trout are a type of brook trout that migrate into salt water.

Ouananiche are freshwater salmon native to the Lac-Saint-Jean and North Shore regions. Landlocked salmon are smaller than the Atlantic salmon and are not an anadromous species.
