2024 EDITION

CONNECTIVITY AND RESILIENCE OF HABITATS

Following the last two editions, “Restoring Our Communities” and “What Future for the Atlantic Salmon?”, we have chosen to explore the complexity of our ecosystems and the measures being taken to protect them. Ecological connectivity is a fundamental concept in ecology and biodiversity conservation for several reasons. It is also highly fragile and can be disrupted by human activities. Thus, the 2024 Forum aimed to provide an opportunity to collectively reflect on the challenges we face and the actions we can take to maintain this connectivity and promote the resilience of Atlantic salmon habitats in the face of climate change. As in previous years, in addition to topics related to the main theme of the 2024 edition, the forum also featured presentations on various aspects of salmon biology and their habitats.

2023 EDITION

WHAT FUTURE FOR ATLANTIC SALMON?

The 2023 Forum aimed to identify the main threats (e.g., climate change, habitat fragmentation, forestry, invasive species, etc.) facing Quebec’s salmon populations and to discuss conservation and management practices that could help mitigate their effects. The forum also sought to identify potential future opportunities for salmon, including those related to a possible northward expansion of the salmon’s range driven by climate warming. Thus, the 2023 Forum laid the groundwork for a discussion on priorities and possible actions for the conservation and restoration of salmon populations in Quebec in a changing world, bringing together stakeholders from diverse fields of expertise. Beyond topics related to the main theme of the 2023 edition, the forum also featured a wide range of presentations covering various aspects of salmon biology and their habitats.
